Go for the established sites - they usually provide only 250mb though but chances that they actually work are much higher..

Use gmail (not yahoo etc) otherwise you wont receive their confirmation emails...

Avoid the franchise free hosts like MyOwnFreeHost.com they wont stick for long...

forget about perl/cgi - wordpress might work with restrictions

To check for double Ips etc use this plugin:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/590 to check for the IP address!

if you are lucky you will find 10% of the list are actually working

expect to start all over again in less than 6 month....
