Making Sites with NVU - (Pronouneced N-View)
Download NVU http://nvu.com/
- A FREE POWERFUL and easy to use WYSIWYG WEB PAGE editor, compare to FrontPage and Dreamweaver. If you haven't already chosen a web page editor, use NVU.
The purpose of this site is NOT to teach extreme web design skills, but rather how to create crisp and clean sites with the purpose of search engine optimization and net marketing.
I chose NVU as the one web editor we'll focus on because:
It's free
It's popular
It's good
It has plenty of support and tutorials.
Kurt's Basic Web Design Tips:
At its most basic, making web pages consists of two elements: html and graphics. You need to know a little about web graphics before you can create web pages. You also need to understand that in order to use graphics on your pages, you will either have to make them, buy them, or find some "free" graphics that you are allowed to use.
Keep it very simple and don't be fancy or artsy. There's only a few fonts that look good, so stick with them. Same with colors. Don't spend hours trying to match colors.
Don't get bored. A common habit amoung web designers is that they spend a lot of time looking at their own pages. Because of this, the get "sick and tired" of the looking at the same thing and start a brand-new web design. Resist this temptation! Your visitors most likely have only seen your site's design once or twice.
Your goals should be:
- Create a simple, but decent looking site.
- Get traffic/make money.
- Then, and only then, should you consider making a fancy site. Too many people spend too much time, money and effort creating a pretty site. This effort is far better spent MARKETING your site.
Whenever you need a reminder about these points, be sure to visit www.Google.com to check out their design...And remember, Google is the most profitable site on the web.
