#0, The ZZ Tuel Thread
Posted by Kurt on Dec-21-07 at 06:19 AM
Here's the ZZ red me and tutorial:
http://tuelz.com/readme/readme-zz.htmlGetting Started with ZZ Tuel:
A. Add some pheeds to the Newz Tuel. For help using the Newz Tuel, see the "Newz Tuel and Scrubz Videos" thread at:
http://www.dombom.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=83&forum=DCForumID42
B. The next thing you should do is have an understanding of the tags and how they work. Later, you will want to add the ZZ tags to pages and templates.
B. Then, you'll want to give ZZ a quick test to make sure "all systems are go".
To get started, let's do a little test to see how well ZZ Tuel is working on your system....
Download/unzip these 30 ZZ test pages and "template" and "destination" folders:
www.dombom.com/iframes/zz-test.zip
1. Create at least 3 CATEGORIES in The Newz Tuel.
Be sure to add some RSS pheeds to each category.
You can use existing stuff if you already have it.
2. Open ZZ.
3. Select: Make New Directory Project by entering a name and clicking the "Create Directory Project" button.
4. Templates Folder: Browse to the tuelz-test-template folder you just unzipped.
5. Destination Folder: Browse to the tuelz-test-destination folder you just unzipped.
6. Fill in server/host ftp details. Once you have basic details, click "Browse" and locate the folder on your website you want to upload pages to.
Be patient. Some servers are slow to respond to FTP, others fast.
Click "OK".
7. Select: Test and set it for 1 minute.
8. Click "Add Project".
9. You should be taken back to "main" page for your new project. Click "Test Now".
10. Wait a couple of minutes...Check both your "destination" folder as well as your website and see if the pages were uploaded, and if content was added.
11.Repeat Click "Test Now".: I used random tags, so your content should change a minute or two later.
12. Pause test. There's no sense in FTPing to your website every minute, wasting cpu and bandwith.
View pages on your hard drive and your website. If your pages are uploaded and updating, chances are very good that "All systems are Go!".
A note about testing:
Don't test two projects at once, not if you're running them every minute.
Nothing bad happens, it's just it takes ZZ longer than a minute to complete the process and two or more tests going at once means you are going to wait longer than a minute or two to get results.
If you are testing two big projects at once, it may be 10 minutes before ZZ cycles through each.
Be aware of projects in test mode, you can be draining your hosting bandwidth.
Be sure to click View All Projects periodically to double check which projects may be in testing mode, running every minute.

"General Guide to Directory Projects and Using Tuelz and Bombs"
Please refer to the ReadME for detailed "how to" info:
http://tuelz.com/readme/readme-zz.htmlThis post is more "theory" and will try to give you some ideas of how to best use ZZ.
I believe "Directory Projects" are easier to learn, so let's start with them.
"Directory Projects" take a directory (folder) of pages we call "templates" and adds RSS pheed content to the templates based on special tags you put in your pages.
ZZ "templates" can be anything, such as html, shtml, and even php or asp. And you can use a little of some and a lot of another, mixing each type in the same project.
The the key to the "Directory Projects" is to have a lot of templates (pages) in the first place, then knowing and applying a little SEO.
These "templates" should be pages that have already been created and have content, let's say you have taken 30 articles from EzineArticles.com and added them to web pages.
ZZ Tuel can add and update RSS pheeds on each page, to help dedoop articles, as well as update the page.
There's a number of ways we can get this done, I'll give a general plan that ties in a few of the recent concepts...
Need: PageBomb (or Pagez), ZZ Tuel, Keymapz, Bakerz
Create pages using PageBomb, but instead of using the SSI tag, use the ZZ tag.
SSI:
<!--#include virtual="/cgi-bin/blogbomb.cgi?keywords=<<key+words>>&results=5"-->
ZZ:
{{keywords=<<key+words>>&items=5&mode=exact}}
Be sure to save these pages to your project's "templates" folder.
Of course, you will need enough pheeds entered into The Newz Tuel to cover your keywords searches to make sure you have content for your pages.
Next, we need a linking structure. Keymapz can be used at two different times for varied results: Before ZZ adds content or After.
If you run Keymapz Before, Keymapz will have fewer words to look at, causing fewer pages to be indexed. This can be good if you have a lot of pages.
On the other hand, letting ZZ add content, THEN running Keymapz allows for many more possibilities. Just remember, this content will change in the future and your Keymapz linking may no longer "match".
If you want supreme control, you can turn "Auto Upload" to off, run Keymapz after each update, then upload your pages.
Keymapz will probably miss a page or two, so you may want to add some Backerz links as a discrete way to get your pages linked with out the old fashioned site maps.
For those that want to go the extra step, Run Backerz in 4 or five different processes, adding different pages to the input form each time.
Both of these styles (Backerz and Keymapz) produce a more "organic" linking structures than other page makers.
Now, you have pages that update fairly regularly and are super fast, with a more natural linking system.
Run Replace/Randomz or ReplaceBomb and miz up some of the keywords, alt tags, etc.
Set ZZ's Scheduler to update a few times a month, back-up, find another cheap host and repeat.

If you had any problems with ZZ not verifying, please try again...The problem "should" be corrected. The real key to ZZ is finding free hosting that actually works. If you come across a list of 100 free hosts, 25 may actually "work", meaning you'll get the passwords, the offer is still open, the host still has a site, etc.
Don't over-do it. You don't need to update a billion pages each day. ZZ Tuel can only work as fast as your net connection.
Instead, use ZZ to keep free hosting accounts "active". Pick a few pages on each site to update 3-6 times a month, or to add a page once every 5-10 days instead of daily.
If you have an ZZ archive project set to update on the 1st, 10th, 20th of each month, you can easily create a second project on a different host...
Just copy the first project, changing the FTP info. and the dates to the 5th, 15th and 25th.
Since RSS pheeds change, assuming up picked good ones, these pheeds will give you new content for each site with minimal effort on your part.
Your main goals with ZZ is to use it to build sites on multiple free and cheap hosts:
1. That stay in the engines. You need your pages to stick and mature for them to do any good.
2. To link to your other resources. Mix your links in with "sacrificial links" to help camoflage your linking patterns.

Bytheway Happy new year )I am kind of surprised not more people here bother to ask questions about zz..
I can see the beauty of the concept: create some main rss feeds include new content/links into these feeds and then spread this feeds with zz to hundreds of free hosted sites. If you have already some spiders visting these pages not only will you get your new sites/links indexed quite quickly but also some link juice...
in creating sites that leaves me with 3 choices here: A-sites creating zz pages only existing of my (always updating feeds) just for quick indexing and/or B-sites using zz to update sites who already have some (PLR)content hence creating more valuable sites here.
Of course I could use my A sites to give some link juice to the B sites which in return will give some link juice to nice looking MFAD sites or MFAF sites
I am just trying to develop this kind of out of the box thinking style (aka kurts thinking)
furthermore I would like to hear some opinions in which ways a software like contentsolution could fit in here...

The real limit will be finding that many free hosts that actually work. But with ZZ, you don't need to worry about the host's tech services working.

You can link these sites both ways. Also, you don't need to update every page on every site, every day. In most cases, just a few pages a couple of times a month, per domain, should be enough.
>I am just trying to develop this kind of out of the box
>thinking style (aka kurts thinking)
>
>furthermore I would like to hear some opinions in which ways

I'm not familiar with contentsolution...But ZZ can be used on any pages you can have on your hard drive.
At the very least, ZZ should be used to maintain your network linking.
Pick pages on a site that you know are indexed and run ZZ to include your various RSS pheeds containing links to your other resources.
Have these pages update a few times a month, so new links are added slowly and steadily across your network.
As you create new sites and blogs, just add their links to your RSS files and let ZZ and RSS go to work for you.
You can also use ZZ to update things that are hard to update...You can take a Fatty skin, for example, and use ZZ and RSS to update that skin.
The real power of ZZ will become more obvious as we get into the Webmaster Tuelz soon and start using them with ZZ. The Tuelz will let us do extreme SEO quickly on our ZZ pages.
It's this combo that seperates the Bomber method from other SEO methods...ZZ automates the process, while Tuelz will let us perform custom SEO optimazation and linking across all the pages.

"The real limit will be finding that many free hosts that actually work" I guess thats similar to the free hosted blogs situation.
I am in the middle of setting up these and at least half of them are not working. As soon as I am finished with these I will start setting up the freehost zz network.
Contentsolution lets you (amongst other things)converts content e.g. articles into RSS. I have not tested it yet but I guess it could work with the archive mode.

Hi Bob,
Are any changes being made to the pages? Check the pages on your hard drive and see if there are changes being made or not.
Also, make sure that the RSS pheeds are updated or ZZ will "update" but there won't be anything different.

I changed the destination and template folder location thinking maybe they are too deep on my hard drive...too no avail. I also changed hosts and that didn't work either. I closed my browser and restarted tuel and it did the same thing.....page refreshes itself. What should the destination folder contents look like if zz is doing it's thing?Bob

Hi Bob,IT sounds like a problem with the tags and/or RSS pheeds, something just isn't "right".
Click on the RSS button in ZZ and copy/paste those tags into a template to see what happens.
Also, exit Tuelz by clicking the "exit" link at the bottom of the ZZ page.
Restart Tuelz.
Run the ZZ project.
Open tuelz.dat using a text editor and send me the contents at lvha@aol.com . There may be an error logged in this file that will tell us what the problem is...

We're getting closer.
How do you have the scheduler set?
And, is it possible the RSS pheeds didn't change so the pages were "updated", but with the same info?
As far as FTP. This should have taken place right after the page updates. Double check that the correct FTP info is entered...

This won't tell you if the pages have been updated, as Tuelz uses this file for many things.
Also, I emailed you that I made a mistake and need the tuelz.log file, not the tuelz.dat file. Sorry about that.
Again, you need to exit and restart Tuelz so that it will clear the tuelz.log file and start writing to it again.

I was looking through the zz manual again and saw that you used ftp.domain.com in your example of setting up the ftp in zz so I changed it and it immediately uploaded the test to my site....excellent! Hey Everyone...I created a ZZ Tuel example site here:
http://animals.reallyfreehosting.com/
It's hosted on of the free hosts some of us researched...
Setting up ZZ was very easy...However, I put in a lot of work beforehand.
Before I started I already had a HUGE blackhole script.
I also bought PLR to, and converted 50 entire Dog articles to RSS to use in my automated "dogs" newsletter from www.lizardz.com .
With this in mind, here's what I did:
I created a basic html template that uses three graphics:
Header
border background image
spacer.gif - used to control the left margin
I pasted the template into ZZ and use the following 4 elements on every page (but the homepage):
1 RSS RANDOM=1 => 50 Dog articles converted to RSS. Each time ZZ goes to work it will select one of my 50 articles.
2 RSS Scrubed Feed RANDOM=2 => This pheed is actually about all types of animals, not just dogs. I want to get some LSI and other keywords added to the mix. I used Scrubz to clean up a bunch of rss items and used the best. ZZ will randomly add 2 of these to each page.
3 RSS BLACKHOLE=3 - I created a super-duper dynamic RSS pheed using content from tons of PLR that I bought.
Right now, these all link to Lizardz.com, but that will all change.
4 Internal navigation - The links at the bottom are to other pages ZZ creates. As ZZ adds pages, it adds links to the new pages to older pages.
The anchor text is created by using the spinner in ZZ. Load some keywords into each of the three boxes and let ZZ spn them. They don't always match the content of the page exactly, but it's very effective for SEO.
After setting the project up, I ran ZZ once and changed the file name of that page to index.html, making it the homepage.
After tweaking things, I then ran ZZ to create 2 more pages, so I have a three page site to start with.
Next, I set the timer to create a new page 3 times per month. I want to make sure it updates at least once a month and need to plan that Tuelz may not always be running, so I choose three.
I figure that I have 50 articles so I should be good for over a year or two, posting 1-2-3 times a month.
After the three pages were up, I created RSS items for each page and added them to my Blackhole pheed.
I created 3 items for the homepage and 2 for the other two pages.
I used chunks of the pages' content for the RSS decription and made a different title for each item, using similar but different keyword phrases. This give the homepage links with three different phrases used for anchor text.
I won't worry about adding any future pages to the RSS pheed. This is a tin site and I just want to get it some links.
As I create other resources, they will also be added to the Blackhole pheed.
This has two purposes:
1. Cross linking
2. Create content As I add snippets of articles to the Blackhole, then mix and match them all up, I can use them as content on other pages.
Next, I need to "social" this site a little.
I did do a lot of work to create the blackhole and convert the articles to RSS...
...However, I'm not done. I'll create another 5-6 ZZ sites on free hosts USING THE EXACT SAME RESOURCES.
All I have to do is swap out the template and enter different FTP info and I'm ready to go.
Remember, I'm using random on all three of my ZZ Tags. And, I've got enough content in my blackhole (thousands of items), plus high quality "scrubbed" RSS items, which can be spun into tons of combos.
Plus, I'm only updating a few times a month, which conserves resouces.
In this way, ZZ builds sites using the "drip" method...Adding a page here and a page there, slowly growing the site over time, growing just like a small site does.
As you add more sites, blogs, lenses, etc., keep adding them to your blackhole.
Right now, while my blackhole has tons of items, all the links point to www.lizardz.com (and this one new site). As I add more sites, the links will greatly diversify.
When I get enough variety I'll mix my own Blackhole with the Scrubz pheeds and no one will ever be able to tell the difference between a link to my network and a link elsewhere.
Check out a secondary page to see all 4 elements:
Article
Two Links to Scrubz news feed about animals
Three Links to www.lizardz.com using my blackhole

Kurt,One question.
How do you get the article to format properly when ZZ writes it to the page?
I haven't ever tried putting an entire 400-660 word article in the description field of the feed. Can't imagine any html markup would parse either.

I converted the articles a while back, so I can't remember the exact details...
It went something like this:
Batch convert 50 text articles to html
Take each article and add it to an big RSS pheed.
Verify the RSS pheed and correct any errors.
I will say that I did a lot of it "by hand" and it took a few hours.
It was work, however I can now use easily use those articles over and over on any site that is RSS friendly...And, I am also using them in my auto-newsletter. I think it was worth the work and I'd do it again.
Sorry I couldn't be more help and give more specifics, but it was too long ago...

I am so not getting this right - I have tried several times. I am following your instructions to the letter Kurt. Haven't started learning the rest till I can see I can get this to work. It never uploads and the files in the destination folder remain the same. I have been trying with a multisite in site 5 - that is the only hosting I have. One time and one time only I got the message 421 too many connections from this IP.I was going to try all your instructions to others...hmn and so tried copying and pasting the Rss feeds using text pad, but they did not come out as Rss feeds, just as written statements like they were when I copied and pasted them. Doubtless I have done something remarkably stupid here!!
I guess what I'm supposed to be doing here is finding whether they work with my hosting, so do you know of a problem with Site 5 and please....please if necessary could someone tell me of a free hosting site they do work on.....thanking you,

Hi Alethea,
To be honest, I don't understand your post...I don't know what a "multisite in site 5" means. For connecting too many times, ZZ will connect each time it uploads pages. I don't know how this it "too many", as most hosts allow unlimited FTP, and a couple of connections should never be too many.
I also don't understand about copy/pasting the pheeds using Textpad? You paste the URL into the Newz Tuel.
Did you view the video I linked to in the first post on this thread about how to add RSS pheeds to the Newz Tuel? Make sure you check out the Newz Tuel video.
Let's take one step at a time...Forget about the hosting for now...Are the pages being updated on your own hard drive?
Once we get the pages to update on your PC, then we'll work on getting them to upload.

I've tried using Scrubz, and that appears to be working okay, except when I try to ftp the .rss file, it is always empty (I've "Added Items to RSS Feed" with multiples, so I know something should be going in there.)Is there any way for me to upload the feed locally, so that I can then access it (by putting it into Newz) and use zz tuelz to create pages?

Not sure why Scrubz would upload a blank file...Try renaming the .rss file to .xml and see if that helps.

Hi Kurt,
I don’t think they’re selling multisites anymore. I guess they would be sort of like a mini reseller. You get 5 main domains to which you can add you add on domains. Just take that as Site 5.
Regarding the upload, I only saw this one time. I have uploaded large things at once and have never had this problem before.
>I also don't understand about copy/pasting the pheeds using Textpad? You paste the URL into the Newz Tuel. <
Yes, I did this, What I am talking about here is that my original intention was to try out everything you had suggested to others before contacting you so I was doing this in an attempt to follow your instructions to Bob where you said
>Click on the RSS button in ZZ and copy/paste those tags into a template to see what happens.>
I used text pad to do the changes.
Yes I viewed the video and my rss feeds I believe are put in correctly.
No the pages are not being updated on my hard drive - though I think at one time they were. I have tried this about ten times. That might have been the time I tried uploading the pages myself! I then deleted the zz-test folder both on my pc and my site and started again. Now they are not updating anywhere.
So at the moment to come to your ‘start at the beginning’ they are not updating on my pc.
P.S...just a little strange extra. When I first looked for word on my start today, it had one of your Bombs stuck onto the front of it. That is the button for word was there but a Kurt bomb was on it. I virus tested it and it was ok and the bomb has since gone, but how strange!

I have a feeling that something was changed. If the pages were updating and now they aren't, something had to be changed.
What happens when something doesn't work is folks start making changes and often create a second error. Then the first error is corrected, but it is still "broke".
My guess is that the correct path to the zz-test folder isn't being entered, since you said the pages were updating at one time and you also deleted the zz-test folder.

Well I'm not if this is the case or how to correct it if it is. I have deleted the directory on zz tuel each time it did not work and then put it in again. I put in the template and destination folder each time I try. But one thing, I do not have the zz-test in the itd folder. It always goes automatically to that folder, then I redirect it to where it is. Should I put it in the itd folder?
thanks,

There's really only two things that can be wrong:
1. You don't have the correct paths to the folders.
2. The tags aren't on the pages in these folders.
Do this:
Exit Tuelz.exe by clicking on the "exit" link at the bottom of the page.
Restart Tuelz.
Try to run the ZZ project.
Open Tuelz.log in a text editor and post the contents of the tuelz.log file.

I looked at the log file. The only error reported is that a couple of fields weren't filled out. Then, ZZ worked on a project.
Here's the path you put for the templates:
My+Documents%5C1+marketing+vault%5Ccreativepersonal%5CDOMCOM%5Czz-test
Looks like you entered the zz-test folder, NOT the zz-test/templates folder.
You did select the correct path for the destination:
My+Documents%5C1+marketing+vault%5Ccreativepersonal%5CDOMCOM%5Czz-test%5Cdestination
Like I posted above...Either the folder directory path you entered is wrong, or the tags are wrong. And I put the tags on the test pages and they work for others.
This leaves the correct file path to the zz-test/templates folder as being the likely cause of the error.
If you don't enter the correct folder path, ZZ won't find pages with tags.

The log file you sent me shows you didn't enter the correct file path. Whether you did enter the correct file path the other times is something only you can know.
And, it's possible that there is another problem, in addition to not entering the correct file path.
Your log file also shows that ZZ Tuel is working. That only leaves user error(s). Sorry, but this is how it is.

Kurt I was looking again at the log I sent you and I found this
5CMoreen%5CMy+Documents%5C1+marketing+vault%5Ccreativepersonal%5CDOMCOM%5Czz-test%5Ctemplates HTTP/1.1" 200 -
as well as this
5CMoreen%5CMy+Documents%5C1+marketing+vault%5Ccreativepersonal%5CDOMCOM%5Czz-test%5Cdestination HTTP/1.1" 200 -
so it actually does look like I did put both in. I do also see
>My+Documents%5C1+marketing+vault%5Ccreativepersonal%5CDOMCOM%5Czz-test
but it does look like I put in the templates.
I think that time I may not have finished the proceedure as I could see nothing was updated.
However, I have after many tries managed one thing. I have managed to get the templates to change on my computer. How I do not know, but they have.
I still though cannot get them to upload and one time I left it for half an hour and I am on broadband.
It's after 3am here so I now am off to bed but I would so love to be able to get this done.

I got a log which shows no apparent errors and claims to have uploaded but did not.
I then tried on a IE and got the message

which is what I also got on firefox when I shut down zone alarm.

alethea,
Can you normally FTP stuff to that domain you are trying to use ZZ tuel on now?
If not, you might want to check to see if you can get thru with an FTP client. It might be that you do not have the FTP "ON" on your server.
There is something else too ...
Kurt said this to you:
>Here's the path you put for the templates:
My+Documents%5C1+marketing+vault%5Ccreativepersonal%5CDOMCOM%5Czz-test
And according to what you said here ...

You are still putting the path to test and not to the "template folder"
Other than that, that is all I know to tell you.

A few things:
- The RSS pheeds themselves don't constantly update. Therefore, ZZ could be "updating" them with the same old info.
- Use the "browse" feature on ZZ to see if you can FTP to your site.
- You said you are getting an error using IE to FTP. Sounds like a problem with your connection or (most likely) your host. Try a "real" FTP client and see if you can FTP. If not, the problem is with your host.
- Try FTPing to a "real" host that you know works instead of experimenting with a free host.
As I said before, there can be more than one problem. When there is more than one problem, it can greatly compound the issue, causing you to change things that were working.
In this case, if your host is at fault, and hosts often are, you will change things in ZZ, causing ZZ to have errors, when the initial problem may have been your host all along.
You have two indications the problem is with FTP: ZZ not uploading and IE reporting an error. Make sure your host will let you FTP before doing anything else.

No here is the path I found on the log for templates.
localhost - - <26/Jan/2008 12:56:40> "GET /zz/select?path=C%3A%5C%5CDocuments+and+Settings%5CMoreen%5CMy+Documents%5C1+marketing+vault%5Ccreativepersonal%5CDOMCOM%5Czz-test%5Ctemplates HTTP/1.1" 200
What I said was there was also a path to
5CMoreen%5CMy+Documents%5C1+marketing+vault%5Ccreativepersonal%5CDOMCOM%5Czz-test but I am suspecting that that is just the first time it gets there. But the path to both templates and destination is definitely there.

I do appreciate the two indications of a problem with ftp. This was the conclusion I had come to. I had done many many tries over several days to make sure I wasn't making silly errors before I contacted you . I eventually came to the conclusion it must be something to do with hosting and thought perhaps zztuel only worked on free hosts - hence why I asked if anyone knew of a free host where it works. If this could solve the problem I would still be interested.
So to conclude, I can upload anything myself to this site, zztuel has no problem browsing there but nothing is uploaded.

Hey everyone, working on my first ZZ project. As with everything the learning curve is there, but mostly on the templates..Which I'll explain what I did to make this easy. After fiddling with everything I finally got some random pages built. I think my host is a pain with FTP though, since the sites only seem to update after a ton of trys. I know ZZ is connecting though, since I setup a virtual ftp on my machine and connected, and zz uploaded everything. It really depends on the hosting with this tuel, since zz uses your browser connection to ftp, it has to re-login everytime a page is uploaded. The biggest problem I have found is with the hosts ftp service not liking this.
Onto the templates. Kurt laid out a good plan above. If you plan ahead in your template you can really randomize the hell out of your pages. Which is awesome. Crank out a 50 page site with keywords, move on to the next. I setup my template in the following way:
I added these tags in the title: 0keytitle1 <<keywords>> 0keytitle2
I have separate text files named 0keytitle1 and 0keytitle2. In these files I have about 200 lines of the beginning and the ends of common sentences, respectively. When I run replacez to change out these tags, I simply go into the respective text files, plop the keywords into replacez, and create human looking sentences that use the keywords. I do something similar for the header of my page.
Then I added a static "chunk" of an article with the following template tag: 0keychunk1. I again have a txt file with paragraphs on their own lines. Run replaces, This will give the page a static element. Then I use a few varying ZZ tags. I have one that selects a post from a specific newz category, and one that selects a specific keyword, with the "all" tag for better results. (I have a hard time getting results with the "exact" tag, so I use "all".
Then I put a "0backerz" tag in the template, so I can run the backerz tuel in this area to add back/next links. And to add some relevant links I put in a "0keymapz" tag to run keymaps.
For my next project I will experiment with adding twitter tweets and identi.ca posts. I found a site named http://feedity.com - What this does is actually rips the site you tell it to, and converts it into an RSS feed. I ran the free service on twitter and it updates the tweets every 10 hours. Pretty cool! Hows that for random relevant content. They say with the free service your rss could be deleted after a month of inactivity, I think the paid service is 3 bucks a month. I'll stick with free for now. But I thought I'd let everyone know about this as an easy way to update your sites with Tweets, forum posts, or any site with user-added content.
If anyone else has tried this let me know. I will try to post back with results if I get this up and running, but it seems like a great way to blast out tons of tin pages with user content.
Also kurt, is there a post with a list of active freehosts that work with ZZ? Also Freesites that let you ftp upload, and use THEIR domain with a keytag> (eg: http://freehost.com/mywebsitehere/)

One more thing, I notice that ZZ adds a linking structure automatically to my pages. I was looking at the README, and see that there are supposed to be three different options for linking. However when I run ZZ I see nowhere to change the linking options. It seems to just randomly throw a link into my pages. How do I change this?Thank

Not an up-to-date list. You'd be better off finding a few of your own.
Most free hosts require you to FTP once a month or they remove your site, so ZZ is good for this, also.
Also, do an IP check of all the free hosts you find. You'll discover a lot of them share the same IPs, which defeats the purpose.

Don't over-think this...ZZ is intended to crank out pages. If you want a few pages to be "perfectly optimized" (whatever that is), open them up in your favorite html or text editor, which is another benefit of using individual html files.
The three linking options are listed on the ZZ Archive project page:
The 3 Linking Strategies are:
1 Add links to newest pages
2 Add links to oldest pages
3 Add links to random pages
