http://www.hide-my-ip.com/ Hide My IP is an inexpensive piece of software ($30) that let's you surf using different IP addresses. It has a number of features such as automatcially changing IPs on a schedule, or letting you choose from 3 different country IPs: US, UK and Canada. This can be useful for posting in Canadian cities, for example.

I always like to check my IP address, just to make sure. You can check here: http://www.biomedcentral.com/whatsmyip.asp I guess you'd want to check your IP with TOR on, then turn it off anc check your IP again...

Kurt, CGI-Proxy seems nifty. It'll help me squeeze some more value out of my hosting. Here are two other options: 1. Findnot.com. You can get the basic service for about $10/month. They have over a dozen IPs you can switch between but I've found that only a couple are fast at any one time. Definitely don't waste your money on the high-speed Findnot service. The speed is barely faster than the cheaper option. 2. Reset your modem. I haven't tried this yet but I've heard that you can get a new IP if you reset your modem provided you don't have a static IP. Kurt, I just found this: http://www.seotrafficsuite.com/software/pg/proxygenius.htm Special note: This is a free program. Just click the "try out" button. The trial expiration should go out about a year. However, if you click the "buy now" button, you'll see a $97 price. It scans for proxies and then checks their speed. You can also enter your own list of proxies and have it check the quality. Once you've found a good proxy, just click on the proxy and then click "Set Proxy" and then open up IE. You can also set the program to loop through a list of proxies every x minutes. Or, just have your proxy list ready and switch manually by clicking the "Set Proxy" button for each CL profile you're using. Rich |

Rich, I tried that one yesterday and wasn't impressed with it. And then, when I uninstalled it, my computer froze up for a while. The TOR concept seems to be easily functional. Everytime you fire up your computer, you have a new IP. Also, during operation, you can click on it's icon and ask for "New Identity." It changes immediately. I would guess you could "cycle through" several without a problem. My only question with it is there's no way to check the geo-location of THAT IP. That's another aspect I need to look into, in ref to TOR. John |

14. "CGI Proxy"
|
John and All.. I wouldn't spend too much time messing with proxies... CGI Proxy gives you your own IP address that you don't share with anyone: http://www.jmarshall.com/tools/cgiproxy/ A domain is $2-10 (although I don't like .info for this) and hosting is another $5-10 a month. If you can't make enough on CL to pay $7 a month for your own IP, then CL probably isn't for you. The script is free and easy to install...Not to mention, there's many additional SEO benefits to have some extra web hosting, such as getting more impact from cross-linking, etc.

>I just installed "CGI Proxy" on one of my domains, pointed >it to "http://showip.net" and it gave the IP number of the >site it's sitting on. If this is the case, then one would >necessarily have to have several sites to run the script on. Yep. As I pointed out, you will need hosting for each IP. That's the bad. It can't just be a "site", like a reseller account, each domain must have a unique IP. The good is that only YOU use the IP address, and you use the same IP every time. With proxy software, you use different IPs which rotate, meaning it is possible that eventually you'll use the same IP for different accounts. And, multiple hosting accounts on different hosts/IPs also have added benefits, such as for SEO, another email address, etc. Plus the time saved searching for a workable IP address. Again, the question that needs to be answered is if having an added IP is making enough profit from CL. If you pay for hosting upfront for 6 months, then it's about $5 a month. On month to month, it's more like $10-12. Is an extra CL account with its own static IP worth $5-10 a month or not? Like I said, start with your ISP (if in the US), then put CGI Proxy on any and all IPs you have access to, THEN either get more hosting or try other proxy options. For those on a tight budget and need to test results first, try a google for: "cheap web hosting" "free trial" Try this and similar searches...You may be able to find something that works.

Taz, Been a while, dude. Good to see ya again. Yes, word is that, to post to US cities, one has to have a US IP. So far, this has been the biggest problem I've encountered. For, I too, operate from a non-US IP and need to cover it. Many proxies are "transparent," meaning they pass your info through them. Gotta watch out for those. Whatever you use, once in, point your browser FIRST at http://showip.net . Verify that you ARE seen as US-based. Seek either anonymous or elite class proxies. Or, use your US-based hosting servers. That's correct, unless of course you want to post in a Canadian city, then you'd try to use a host located in Canada to give you an IP from that country.

I'm getting the same results as you are...I have Kirill (my tech expert, programmer) looking at it to see if there's anything we can do... If there's any hack or instructions to make it work, I'll pass it along.

Hi Rich and All... I asked Kirill if he did anything else and he said:
I have also had to set the script parameter $OVERRIDE_SECURITY= 1 ; Perhaps this is it.
So check and make sure you have set this security peramter correctly. Let me know if this worked...

>If I use a product like http://www.hide-my-ip.com would >there still be a need to also use a product like CGI Proxy? Jody,
As John said, and I pointed out above, HideMYIp will give you a different IP each time. You will also share these IPs with others. CGI Proxy will give you the same IP each time (per installation) and you will be the only one that uses it.

>Social Bookmarking isn't that easy to use with proxy > >I know Windows Live Facebook Digg can't be done via >proxy. Or does anyone else succeeded in this ? Taz, I haven't tried those, but there are plenty others. Get Bookmarking Demon (use the Bomber affiliate link in the buy/sell/wanted thread). It takes a while to figure out, but it also has a proxy built in and lets you find Scuttle sites. Scuttle is a free SB script and most webmasters don't have top security. But it still gives links. Just be sure to have a big network with decent content first. If you have a lot of different resources, each with a good article, you can submit them all to SB services, giving you more links. Don't forget to mix in some "sacrificial links" which are links to big, major sites that you can't compete against. This helps remove fingerprints and makes your SB submissions look even more legit.

37. "Using Proxies With Proxy Firewall"
|
For those looking to use proxies on a regular basis I have found Proxy Firewall is excellent (you may need to turn it off when using Tulez). It works with either free proxies both html and socks proxies and you can also use it with private proxies. Any one who is serious about good quality proxies I find Packet Flip proxies are the best you'll find their link on the Proxy Firewall download page. The good thing about proxy firewall is FREE so if you want it just download it at http://proxyfirewall.org One other great thing is you can set it up so if you say use IE and Firefox one can work with proxies and the other without. You can even use Proxy Firewall as a anti virus and anti attack system if used properly no one can trace you or even fidn your PC. I have also found using Proxy Firewall works brilliantly with TOR although it takes a bit of effort to get set up first time. If any one gets stuck I can try and help but it's fairly straight forward. Have You Ever Wondered What It Would Be Like To Like To Have A Dreambody ? Discover How at http://www.dreambodynow.com |

You will find they are using a script to identify the ip of the vistor which is passed by your Internet Service Provider as you visit a web page. To preserve anonimity people use proxies some times for blackhat stuff and otherwise to stay under the radar. There are also proxy sites where you can surf under the radar such as http://anonym.to You can find a lot more out about proxies at http://proxyfirewall.org it's quite revealing how much people can find out about their vistors if they know where to look. You can also get what they call a GEO script which identifies where a visitor has come from and shows them content accordingly. I am not sure if this has been discussed but it can help when converting offers on web pages. I think you can buy or get free a script on places like Scriptlance.
