81. ""BLOGBOMB HELP - rss url is too long""
|
"BLOGBOMB HELP - rss url is too long" I keep running into this error message in BBX2 admin when trying to add a new feed. rss url is too longHas happened quite a few times. I usually just toss the feed I was trying to add but thought I'd ask for help here in the forum. Is there any reason the length of the URL should be restricted or is this another problem??? It just happened again as I was trying to test out an itunes feed feds available at: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/MRSS/rssGenerator Also while I am here - does anyone have an easy solution so I can publish my own RSS feeds and trade with other BLOGBOMBERS etc. ??? Thanks in advance Mick ____ Can someone please help me? I do not know where to find this info?

Hi Rob, I think I know what it is, but... What Kurt and Taz were saying above is to post support questions on existing readme/tech threads for each bomb. If they get posted all over the place, future users will never be able to find what they need. In fact, that's what happened with the answer to Mick's original question about the url length - it was posted to the buyitbomb-zon thread, and really it was a Blogbomb question. Kurt and Taz both thought the original answer was on the readme for blogbomb where it should be, but somehow that one slipped by unnoticed or they would have moved it. Since this thread is on RSS resources, your question should be posted on the buyitbomb-zon thread at: http://www.dombom.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=456&forum=DCForumID9 Thanks, Jeff

92. "Question about moreover"
|
IS moreove a fee-based service, or is it entirely free? The reason I ask, as it seems there is conflicting info on their site. On one hand, there's an XML feed easily accessable, on the other, their terms say "The Service is a fee based service and is only available to organizations that have entered into a license agreement with Moreover". the reason I ask, is that I''ve been busy setting up a couple of good info sites in a particular niche, and would hate for my server to get dinged due by moreove (EV1 is sensitive abiut that stuff ) Erik

Hey Guys, Do you know that FeedSter.com does not provide "rss" feed link any more? I can click on the other 3 links: MyFeedster, OPML and ATOM, but RSS... And also I noticed that the results from FeedSter display whole contents instead of just first few line of an article. |

Hi Tsuyoshi >Do you know that FeedSter.com does not provide "rss" feed >link any more? I can click on the other 3 links: MyFeedster, >OPML and ATOM, but RSS... If you 'hover' over the rss link you get a drop down menu - ignore this. Simply click the '2.0 rss' and it's converted to rss (at least it is for me). >And also I noticed that the results from FeedSter display >whole contents instead of just first few line of an article. This is purely down to how the original poster chose to syndicate the article. Besides - more words = more traffic -- Edward

>Edward...Thanks for the fixes... No worries - happy to help. I've just noticed that the script in it's current form also returns the sponsored results that are shown at the bottom of the page results and the audio / video section on the right. The fix for this is as follows: Find: $match_count = ($match_count > 25) ? 25 : $match_count; and change 25 to 20 That way only the first 20 results are kept - i.e. the first 20 results are the actual news stories. -- Edward |

Hi Graeme >I assume yahoo2rss.php is the same as yahoonews2rss.php Yep - I just mistyped. >If so - I have changed the 2 lines you mentioned and my news >still won't work. What sort of results do you get? Just the xml header with no results? Or timing out? Or something else? Was the php version working before or did you use the curl version? I've double checked the script and it's still working for me. Any additional information you can provide will help me track things down a bit further. -- Edward |

|
article: Moreover, a news feed aggregator, has moved their service to FeedDirect.com. This move was made so Moreover can more easily manage the websites who contain the company’s news feeds. As reported by NetImperative.com, “Moreover specializes in gathering online news from across the Internet, categorizing, editing and filtering it and delivering it to users.” Current websites that use Moreover newsfeeds must register with FeedDirect in order to receive a news feed code replacement or have their accounts terminated with no further notice. FeedDirect’s free service will feature contextual ads within the news feeds. Moreover has partnerships with MSN, Yahoo, and Google. MSN just finalized a deal with Moreover to develop MSN’s Newsbot, which is “a localized automated news service that gathers feeds from more than 4,000 online sources.” /Cotton pianoman "What Do Jimi Hendrix, Clapton, Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia, Cher, Hank Williams Jr, B.B. Hello all, I'm never sure if I'm posting in the right thread... whoever is in charge please move my post if needed Hopefully this link hasn't been posted on the forum yet.... I apologise if instead it has been posted and I didn't see it Here's a cool site I just found: http://www.mouken.com/rss/carp/ Which is about CaRP, a Caching RSS Parser (I wrote it but I'm not sure what that means... LOL!) There's so much stuff on that page that somewhere there must be something useful for bombers... one link for example goes to: http://chordata.geckotribe.com/ "Your directory of quality RSS, Atom and Info Bite feeds"... THIS I know can be of some use to blogbomb users There's also some info on how to automatically generate customized Amazon.com Associates links http://www.mouken.com/rss/carp/manual/example_amazon.php I know there's a bomb for Amazon which probably works better with other bombs, but I still think this page can be useful to someone Then there's also something to Convert Web Pages & News Searches to RSS: a tool called Grouper: http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/grouper/ These are just a couple of sections I found in less than 5 minutes browsing... if you find anything else useful enough to be noted please post it here (or in a more relevant thread Hope this helps, cheers, Saul

Whilst using filetype:rss in Google will almost definately return valid RSS files it may not. The reason for this is that Google's filetype search modifier (for non supported files, such as PDF Word Docs, Excel spreadsheets etc.) works on the file extension. Although it is unlikely that anyone would use the rss extension for anything other than an RSS file it is possible. More importantly though is that most RSS feeds are auto generated by server side code and don't use an RSS extension. .php .cgi .asp .pl etc are all more likely so that's why I prefer Yahoo's search over Google's for finding feeds as their advanced search works on the file content rather than file extension Jason D |

Tasari, Chris - I'm not sure which Newzbomb you're having trouble with. I saw a reference to Yahoo News on the other thread. Check posts 96 & 97 on page 1 of this thread. Yahoo changed their format, which required some changes to the program. Edward was kind enough to post the fixes both as downloadable files and as instructions of what to change. One is for Rocket News and the other for Yahoo. Both of the files Edward posted are working for me. The Google one doesn't seem to be working right now, so they may have changed their format by now. Gil, Here's what Edward's instructions said (may have been in the forum and not in the attachment). The instructions below worked fine for me. Open yahoonews2rss.php and Find: $itemregexp = "{<li><a href=\"(<^\"> )\"><big>(. ?)</big></a>. ?</div>\s (. ?)<br><img}is"; and Replace with: $itemregexp = "{<li><a. ?href=\"(<^\"> )\">(. ?)</a>. ?</div>(. ?)</li>}is"; also Find: $data = strstr($data,"YAHOO! 127. "Newzbomb doesn't work on new server"
|
I just got a new dedicated server running Fedora with Plesk and moved a site that has blogbomb all over it. I can get Blogbomb to work with NEW feeds from daypop etc. but all my old feeds were from Newzbomb (yahoo and Allthe News etc.) and for some reason Newzbomb does not work. I installed on a fresh new domain and same thing Newzbomb does not work. Enter in a query and it just spins but never leaves the page??? Very odd. I do not look forward to having to switch my yahoo news etc. to something else. My provider says server has standard php and it is the script that is problem. I tried both versions - with curl and without. Can someone help me??? http://www.vjvideo.com/newzbomb/yahoonews2rss.php Also I tried replacing my category and cache files but get errors - I think because newzbomb iz not working. Very frustrating. Mick, The fixes are definitely a necessity. Something else to look at is a couple of PHP settings - safe_mode and register_globals. Those settings could be different between your old and new server. My bet based on your description of the problem is that register_globals is OFF on your new server, and ON on your old one, and that would be the likely cause of this problem. Let's check this: On your site, create a file called phpinfo.php - in that file put the following: <? phpinfo(); ?> Save the file, then let me know where it is. It will let me check the settings on your server. You can PM me the location if you want. I'd delete that file after we're done with it. If it's a dedicated server that you control, it's easy enough to fix. Jeff

Gene, That page that you see that starts with <xml is what you would add to Blogbomb. Just copy/paste the URL from your browser address bar into a Blogbomb channel. I would advise against using that feed directly from voidstar.com . Bombers have similar scripts, I believe they are included with Blogbomb, and they're called newzbombs I think. I'd install them on your own domain. In fact, if I were you, I'd get a cheap throw-away hosting account somewhere ($6/year at Dayanahost.com) and install them there if you're going to use them. Your feeds will then source from that account, and you can paste that URL into Blogbomb at your main domain(s). Jeff

I've never considered it a problem, and as I said, you can't get around it. You simply add enough pheeds to give you enough content for your project. And/Or, you select resources that offer more than 10 items per pheed...Any of the RSS Bombs, or RSS.pheeds.com .

Simply go to the BlogBomb Xtreme Admin Area and put in the template field, the following: <a TARGET="_blank" href="{url}">{title}</a><br> {description}<br> </br> Hope this helps. Kurt, BlogBomb is great. As to your question.... Reason I posted this here was because of your statement in the official threads. LAST EDITED ON Jan-14-05 AT 11:43 PM (PST) (Sorry Kurt it's 4am here and I am a bit brain dead...) It seems that the most feeds I am using now do not refresh daily. What sites/rss feeds have you found (general topics) that give the freshest content? Steve |

Steve, Everyone... When using a pheed search engine such as Daypop, you will have two search options: Relevancy (default) Date If you want "fresh", you need to do a search BY DATE, then grab the rss url from that search. If you chose relevancy, your pheeds will not update nearly as often. Obviously, "By date" will list the newest pheeds first, which is what we need...

Any other use of these results requires express written permission from Microsoft Corporation. With this said, I'm not sure how they can copyright others' news stories, but I'd guess the the "compilations/group of summaries" can be copyright protected. Also, there is a point in US copyright law called being "set" which means a document has to be finished before it can get copyrights. The concept being, "How can you have copyright protection for something that will changed?" With this said, getting sued by Microsoft's lawyers is something most of us may not want to risk...

159. "RE: List of RSS feeds that pay you PPC"

Hi Holly, Welcome to the Madbomber's forum - nice to see you here! Are you thinking of Cherrybomb? That gets PPC results in XML format and displays them on your page as plain HTML. That's the only revenue-producing PPC feed I can think of that we've discussed here. There are other revenue-producing feeds available, although they're not PPC. For example, Bo's Buy It Bomb turns merchant data feeds to RSS. Jeff
