"Creating a Niche Search Engine"
|
While FatBomb will return results for just about anything, depending on your settings, you'll probably get better results create a "niche" search engine (or 2). Competing with the likes of Google, Yahoo and MSN may be out of our league. However, what about more targeted "niche" engines? How many great country/western music or photoshop search engines have you come across? There's really not much difference between a general FatBomb and a niche FatBomb, except the niche FatBomb: - Has a country/western theme for the graphics. - Has a c/w "theme" for the links. Instead of links like "Computers...Business....Travel"... Your niche engine will suggest using links subjects such as: Johnny Cash...The Dixie Chicks...Tobey Keith Of course, using the search box, your visitors can find practically anything, but your site's appearance and the links you present will create the "image" of what you FatBomb to "be about". You can even take out your search box, and "force" surfers to use only the links you give, further enhancing the image of a "niche". Also, by selecting very tarteged subjects, you can now create your own database of targeted links. Create a FatBomb database of 100 "hand picked" links to enhance your results. Create another FatBomb database using link exchanges with other relevant sites and include these links in your results and pages. From my experiences, I think you'll find other webmasters more likely to link to search engines/directories, as they see to think of them as a "honor" and don't perceive them as a competitor to their own site. With this strategy, not only will you be building content for your FatBomb, you'll also be building links, and links can mean direct traffic as well as increased SE rankings. You can also use www.buyitbomb.com from Bo to add c/w themed products and merchandise to add more stuff and revenue streams. People interested in country music are probably also interested in cowboy boots. FatBomb gives you plenty of opportunities to create a wide variety of niche search engine/directories and is really only limited by your imagination (and research).

What bomb to you recommend that I include with Fatbomb to provide both meta searches, and static pages? I am having trouble trying to figure out the best product to use in conjunction with Fatbombs to make static spiderable pages. I have profitbomb, powerbomb, cbbomb is that still being supported has it be superseded? Kelvin

Kelvin, As far as making "html" pages, we'll only discuss using FatBomb for "page making" in the private forum. Note to All: Acceptance into the private forum isn't guaranteed with any purchase. I use my own "criteria" for offering invitations and may take away membership at any time. I know you're going to ask, but there isn't a "way" to get into the private forum... I will say who its NOT for, and that's thieves, jerks and competitors.

Hi Kurt and all, Thanks so much for the FatBomb script. I downloaded it and started playing with it yesterday. I had one more domain related to my ebay auction business here in Japan, selling Japanese fan comics - doujinshi - and I thought making a niche portal was a super idea. I've given it a whirl here DoujinshiLand.com. I have it hosted it newwebhost with a bunch of other domains. I'm on a free two week trial. I suppose if I'm going to start linking this to my high traffic doujinshi sites, I should make sure this hosting will do. Any suggestions? Next I want to make my own sites and pages, some affiliate sites, etc.. show up in the listings where I want, so I will start playing around with the databases. This script was easy even for me to install and get running, especially considering I got a D- in C back in University! I modified an old css template I had purchased a couple years ago and whipped up the header .jpg with an ebook cover generator. My next batch of auctions end tomorrow - I'll be sending of the $35 soon after! What to do next?? Absolutely Wild. Thanks, James |

James, Since I made the comment about your site, I decided to put a site targeted to selling one product. I have to test it, because I may lose sales by adding SF to it. Then again i may earn money once the site is indexed. Who knows, if i visit a few gardening forums I may get a few links back. kelvin Join the MadBomber VIP club here http://www.dombom.com/vip/clk/54sr37 |

All, Let me say how much I love FatBomb. It is so powerful! Thanks Kurt for such an innovative product at such a great price I am working on upgrading BuyItBomb with new features and one of them is integrating it more closely with FatBomb. Here is a demo site that I have been playing around with. It combines the new BuyItBomb 2.0 "Bullet" engine and FatBomb into a cool product search engine. All search results are created by BIB. In this example, there are 15 datafeeds that are searched simultaneously on a remote site. Pretty fast huh! I'm working on the algorithm to rank the results better. Right now, everything is equal so you get a lot of results from the same merchant clustered together. I tend to procrastinate a lot like most people. Sometimes moving from project to project. Only keeping 3 or 4 that I work on a lot, but 10 or more just hanging. This is just to say if you use Fatbomb, you can quickly create niche searchengines and move on. I created another this morning. That is 3 in less than a week. 2 are converted sales pages, that were not selling much anyway. So, thanks Kurt, and all. I can do this every week, and if I can, so can you. http://www.guitar123.com http://weekendgarden.com Kelvin Join the MadBomber VIP club here http://www.dombom.com/vip/clk/54sr37 |

14. "RE: Creating a Niche Search Engine - Search feed results"

>Just wondering why the default is set to 5? >Kelvin, The only reason SF is set to 5 is because it had to be set to "something". I chose 5 because on www.lubz.com I didn't want any side tables so the page would be wide enough to allow for a full "preview". This meant I needed to put SF links across the top, instead of the side. If the SF links were down a side, I'd usually try to have more. I generally add SF links based on page design, more than marketing. Bascially, how many fit? However, on www.lubz.com I think 3-5 SF links at the top, with 7-8 more (repeating some) at the bottom. While "a lot" of PPC results may seem best, remember the bid ammounts between #1 and #20 can be very large. It's always a trade off..A lot of lower priced links or a few higher priced links. It's up to you...

15. "I'm an Idiot RE: Creating a Niche Search Engine - Search feed results"
|
I have a searchfeed account, but it took me forever to figure out how to get fatbomb to show my search feed results - but this is only because I'm an idiot. Of course, they were showing under Kurt's ID first, but I wasn't even seeing those. I had turned off Java scripting in my browser and had forgotten all about it, so I wasn't seeing any sponsored results at all, and thought I'd messed things up. I finally fired up my laptop - with normal browser settings - and figured out what was going on. After that, it was just a matter of changing the id in my defaut-results.html. I feel like I'm on a treasure hunt. Being an idiot is great, because I end up creating my own "choose your own adventure" stories every day! LAST EDITED ON Apr-14-06 AT 02:41 PM (PST) Sorry Kurt,I guess I'm having a hard time getting around here, very confusing for me. I will just do more testing on my own and stop messing up the forums here. Thanks, Patrick |
